The Children of Mapalo in Northern Zambia, Africa
CFOC is providing funding for one year worth of operating costs for the children of the Mapalo orphanage in northern Zambia. The funds from CFOC will provide the children of Mapalo with food, water, medication, education, electricity, school supplies, clothing, training and any other necessity required for each of the 300 children at the orphanage.
Since the pandemic began 20 years ago, an estimated 650,000 children in Zambia have been orphaned or left with one parent as a result of HIV/AIDS. To this day, nearly 20 percent of Zambian adults are believed to suffer from the disease, placing the future of countless more children in jeopardy.
Along with the HIV/AIDS crisis, tens of thousands of children in Zambia suffer from malaria. It is estimated that 40 percent of the children under the age of five die from this disease. The impacts of these epidemics have been devastating to the children of Zambia.
In addition to the country’s health crisis, Zambia suffers from extreme poverty due to a lack of education and employment opportunities.
Despite the daunting problems this impoverished country faces, reasons for optimism remain. Create for Our Children has chosen to support the Mapalo orphanage because it is a beacon of hope for the children of Zambia. In the beginning, one teacher cared for all 300 children in a building no larger than a two-car garage. Now the orphanage has expanded to include a new schoolhouse and five teachers, all of whom are receiving formal teacher training. Mapalo’s mission is to provide the highest level of education and care for each of its 300 students, and help them to become independent, self-sustaining and contributing members of society.
Many unable to walk due to malnutrition and with little hope of surviving, much less receiving an education, these 300 children of the Mapalo orphanage now have a chance to change their future as well as that of their country.

The Children of the Kilimanjaro Kids Care (KKC)
Orphanage in Tanzania
Create for Our Children is currently supporting the children of KKC by supplying funds for each of the children’s school fees.
KKC has made a home for 21 orphaned/vulnerable children in the town of Himo, Tanzania. The directors of the orphanage are able to provide these children with proper food and shelter, but need help with paying for their education. The children of the KKC orphanage attend a school in Himo. The directors of the orphanage have chosen this school in order to give the children the best education possible from the community they live in. All of the classes at the school are conducted in English which will better prepare them for high school and later college. In addition to the classes, their school fees also cover two uniforms and two pairs of shoes, school outings, PTA fees, one lunch a day, as well as tea and a snack in the morning. The children are picked up each day on a small bus and taken to and from school. The school is in a safe cared for environment. Boarding is also provided, if needed.
Tanzania is a developing country located in the east central part of Africa, covering a total area of 364,899 sq. miles with a population of 36 million. Even though the country seems big enough to hold this many people, Tanzania is lacking support to educate its population. An average employed individual in the capital city of Dar es Salaam earns less than $1 a day; people in rural areas earn even less.
Many of the children in the rural part of Tanzania don’t have access to quality education to help them grow and prosper later in life. These children spend their childhood roaming the streets in search of food, clothing, and shelter. The situation is very severe; many children die each day due to malnutrition and diseases such as malaria, typhoid, and AIDS. It is our duty as the citizens of the world to give them hope and the chance at opportunity through proper education and healthcare.
